2008 MetLife Volunteer Service Award Winners

Jack Williams receives MetLife Volunteer Service Award! This is what Children's Home Society of Virginia had to say to Jack: “Though you credit our writing abilities as the reason for getting the award, that is not where the recognition truly lies. We were given the opportunity to nominate you to receive a Volunteer Service Award from MetLife and we were given the simple task of sharing with them the impact that you have had on CHSVA as a volunteer. The only tough thing about the application was keeping our statement to a page!
As we wrote in the application... "Jack’s tireless dedication creates waves of energy throughout the agency, strengthens the depth and breadth of our mission and fosters a devoted group of volunteers throughout Virginia. For raising his voice on behalf of those without a voice and for demanding the highest possible standards from CHSVA, we are continually grateful for Jack’s involvement with our agency.’
We tip our hat to you, Mr. Williams!”
About CHSVA…
The CHSVA has a very unique expertise with moving children who are languishing in state administered foster homes and placing them into permanent homes. One of our families has adopted 5 children (1 little boy who was sold into slavery at birth for the price of a bus ticket and lived as such until he was taken into care by the Virginia Department of Social Services at age 7; 3 siblings; and 1 infant who was adopted by them in the last month). This unique ability of the CHSVA is part of its Partnership for Adoption program which is in need of additional ongoing funding. We are wondering if MetLife Foundation would consider CHSVA for a major gift to endow this program and enable it to continue and expand its services in this area. There are over 1600 children in foster care in Virginia who may never be placed in permanent homes if it were not for CHSVA!
